Reasons New Street Closure is not
working for the community
Exiting the Strand Street/ Green area is now through a narrow bridge and on the other side a dangerous corner with
significant pedestrian footfall at the end of James’s Terrace. This will not be sustainable with usual traffic volumes. The ‘Pilot’ is not addressing the reasons why people use the car to access services and retail in the village
also it is not doing anything to increase retail activity.Consistent removal of Car parking spaces to facilitate the difficulties that are arising from the traffic
diversion. The predominantly residential Old Street is experiencing a huge surge in vehicular traffic.
This is not testing in a realistic ‘usual’ environment (significantly reduced footfall and traffic at present and no usage of leisure facilities that rely on safe traffic levels)
Closing this road is at odds with the published Malahide Public Realm Strategy for New street
The functionality of New Street has been poorly reviewed and examined prior to the commencement of the Pilot
No success measures have been discussed, agreed, published or communicated for the ‘Pilot’. What are the success measures?
