Reasons New Street Closure is not
working for the community

  • Exiting the Strand Street/ Green area is now through a narrow bridge and on the other side a dangerous corner with
significant pedestrian footfall at the end of James’s Terrace. This will not be sustainable with usual traffic volumes.

  • The ‘Pilot’ is not addressing the reasons why people use the car to access services and retail in the village
also it is not doing anything to increase retail activity.

  • Consistent removal of Car parking spaces to facilitate the difficulties that are arising from the traffic
    diversion.

  • The predominantly residential Old Street is experiencing a huge surge in vehicular traffic.

  • This is not testing in a realistic ‘usual’ environment (significantly reduced footfall and traffic at present and no usage of leisure facilities that rely on safe traffic levels)

  • Closing this road is at odds with the published Malahide Public Realm Strategy for New street

  • The functionality of New Street has been poorly reviewed and examined prior to the commencement of the Pilot

  • No success measures have been discussed, agreed, published or communicated for the ‘Pilot’. What are the success measures?
